Synopsis
Inspired by a snowman, Cow decides to try her own hooves at sculpting. Her snowcow looks more like a camel, but it gives her the idea for a special surprise! While Pig, Chicken, Horse and Goat enjoy a Christmas party in the barn, Cow is hard at work in the snow. What could she be doing out there that's worth missing the presents, the food, the friends-the whole holiday? The animals soon discover Cow's moognum opus waiting for them: A nativity scene called "the Spirit of Christmas," a reminder of God's greatest gift.

Todd Aaron Smith is a professional graphic artist and commercial animator who has worked on characters such as Tony the Tigerô and the Archie clan in comics. A graduate of Columbus College of Art and Design, Smith lives in Joplin, Missouri, with his wife and baby daughter.

PreSchool-Grade 2-While the other barnyard animals have a party in the barn, Cow stays outside. The animals agree that she "-is missing what Christmas is all about: being together with family and friends, eating great food, telling fun stories, and getting presents-!" But cow has been making a snow Nativity scene, which brings up the subject of Jesus's humble birthplace. Sheep explains, "But that's the way God chose to do it!-He didn't need a lot of money or an expensive place to live. He came to us for Christmas!" The cartoon depictions of these cross-eyed animals seem at odds with the weighty and didactic text.-S. P.
