From the Back Cover

"The Minor Prophets provide a portal, not only to viewing the Old Testament in fresh ways, but for walking through to the life gone deep into God. . . . The Minors challenge our approach to life, our interaction with others." -from the introduction

"Dan's writing transcends the purely theoretical. He uses his knowledge of the biblical texts to bring change in the lives of his readers." -Jim Reapsome, author

Although the Minor Prophets are seldom studied, their words of "holy dissatisfaction" were never meant to be cordoned off. Rather, they should be shared throughout all generations to fuel a robust, authentic faith in God. In Unexpected Wisdom, those words roar to life as Dan Schmidt offers both thought-provoking and practical lessons on how you can live in passionate relationship with the Lord.

From Jonah's story on grace to Micah's thoughts on power, Obadiah's teaching on pride to Haggai's words on choices, this book speaks with razor-sharp relevance about Christian living. And with its emphasis on the Minor Prophets, it provides a refreshing alternative to studying mainly New Testament books for guidance on how to grow in your faith.

Whether you've read the Bible for years or are a new Christian eager for insight, Unexpected Wisdom reveals age-old truth along with a modern-day challenge: Take a headlong plunge into life and be thoroughly infused by God.

Reviews

Minor Prophets, Major LessonsWhat is the basic theme of the Book of Obadiah? What does Hosea's allegory about the faithless Gomer teach us about the relationship between God and the Church? In Unexpected Wisdom: Major Insights from the Minor Prophets, Dan Schmidt answers these questions and more, bringing the oft-neglected words of Amos, Habakkuk, Haggai, Joel and others to the foreground and providing contemporary applications. He leans toward the moral, rather than the philosophical, approach; Malachi's message, Schmidt says, is to "radiate integrity" and Micah's is to "use power well." It's a different position, and one that will work well for individual or group study.
