Paperback Edition Coming in January 2014
How long does it take to make a difference in the life of a child?
For good or for ill, individual moments in a young person's life can make all the difference in their future. It may be something said or done by an adult who hardly thinks about it: a hug, a compliment, an intriguing question, a sincere applause. But in that moment, the child discovers who they are, what is important to them, why they matter, and sometimes even what their destiny will be. Most of us want to help encourage and build into this next generation, most of us see the need all around, but we just have no idea where to begin.
Now, with this book, you know where to begin and you know that it only takes Just a Minute. Follow along as Dr. Wess Stafford, president of Compassion International, shares stories and experiences to introduce you to the difference you can actually make anywhere on the spectrum of child development. From helping meet physical needs to breaking down emotional barriers and from discovering latent talents to equipping with spiritual insights, these stories are a catalyst for action.
You don't have to be a teacher, a parent, a pastor, or a doctor to make a difference in the life of a child. You only have to be willing!

WESS STAFFORD From the poor of Africa's Ivory Coast to President and Chief Executive Officer of Compassion International, Dr. Wesley K. Stafford - Wess - has maintained one simple belief: God's children are priceless resources. To that end, Wess leads Compassion's efforts to break the cycle of poverty for children everywhere. Wess joined the staff of Compassion International in 1977 and has worked with the ministry, both overseas and at headquarters, for 34 years. He has served as president since 1993. Wess lives on a small ranch near Colorado Springs, Colorado with his wife, Donna, of 32 years who was a Compassion sponsor even before she met Wess! They have two daughters, Jenny and Katie - the two children in the world for whom Wess is the greatest advocate of all.
I distinctly remember the first 'minute' when I met Wess Stafford and was encouraged by the heart of Christ in him. For this reason, I can't imagine a better person to write on the subject of maximizing our minutes to show the love of the Father in heaven to children all around us in the world.
-David Platt, Senior Pastor, The Church at Brooks Hills, Author of Radical
Over the years that Wess Stafford and I have become good friends and ministry partners, one thing has become crystal clear: Wess' unbridled devotion to children, especially those in deep poverty, knows no boundaries. That's why Just A Minute is so pivotal. It will remind you who it was that launched your life-and who deserves your thanks. And more importantly, it issues an impassioned plea to make "Just A Minute differences" in the lives of the children all around you. I know of no better man to proclaim that today. . . right now is your moment to change a life forever.
-Michael W. Smith, Singer/songwriter
My dear friend, whom I lovingly call "Uncle Wess" has written a treasure of a book called Just A Minute. Full of incredibly moving stories, Wess' writing inspires us all to realize that every interaction with a child has the power to change his or her destiny. Wess' integrity, compassion, and love for Jesus has had a profound impact on my life. One cannot encounter him in person or in writing and not be changed. Prepare to be encouraged and moved!
-Rebecca St. James, Singer, writer, and actress
Knowing how "in tune" Wess is with children, it doesn't surprise me that Just A Minute came straight from his heart and his experience. Wess has always been a champion for children and in Just A Minute he makes us champions as well. Whether it is a special encounter or a lifelong commitment to child development, Just A Minute helps us all shape kids who will create healthier families, communities, and countries-not to mention finding their own special place in the world.
-Dr. Gary Chapman, Author of the #1 New York Times Bestselling book, The 5 Love Languages
Jesus called children 'my little ones,' and gave a stern warning to anyone who would cause a child to stumble. This book is a challenge for every follower of Jesus to take notice of the little ones in our midst, and to show them we love them because He first loved us.
-Bob Lepine, Co-Host, FamilyLife Today
Every kid needs at least one person who is crazy about them. As an internationally recognized child advocate, Wess Stafford has given his life to helping children all over the world break free from poverty, in Jesus' name. In this fascinating read, Just A Minute, Stafford takes us on an incredible journey into the divine appointments and life-giving opportunities that God gives us every day. Enter its pages and you'll be forever changed!
-Dr. Tim Clinton, President, American Association of Christian Counselors
