In the Hip-Hop culture, Jesus Christ is often reduced to a cultural icon. But He’s so much more. While millions of people worldwide identify themselves as part of this culture, far too few know much about the cross that is inked onto their shoulders or the Jesus who adorns their necklaces.
Aimed specifically at the Hip Hop–influenced generation, You’re Groundedisa reliable, insightful book about the person of Jesus Christ and the Christian life. Written in an easy-to-read fashion, each chapter starts with a story from urban culture—using figures and examples familiar to the culture, like Michael Jordan, Tupac, the TV show Good Times—and then transitions to highlight truth found in Scripture concerning Jesus Christ.
This book is ideal for small group and discipleship settings. It’s a great resource for high school and college campus ministries, as well as juvenile and adult prison ministries.

“Modern adolescent culture, hip hop and the power of incarnational outreach is a lifestyle Chris Lassiter does more than just write about. As a remarkably effective relational minister, he has lived it. His Jesus centered understanding of gospel and his passion to see disinterested young people have a chance to encounter and be transformed by Jesus make his writing both timely and authentic. This is a book that should create impact in real lives.” Dr. Lee Corder, Senior Vice President of International Young Life Northern Hemisphere
Chris Lassiter gets it! More specifically, he gets youth, he gets scripture, and most of all, he gets Jesus -- a potent combination that he shares in You're Grounded. Experience truth that roots us in a shallow world from the vantage point of someone who's been there, done that, and continues to live it at home and in youth ministry every day. Jeremy Del Rio, Esq., Executive Director of 20/20 Vision for Schools (New York City)
“Chris is a valuable contributor in helping us tell the great story of what God is doing through the mission of Young Life. I am very thankful for Chris and always look forward to reading the articles he contributes to our magazine, Relationships. I’m excited he’s now telling the important story of Christian doctrine and its influence on the hip-hop influenced generation.” -Jeff Chesemore Lead EditorYoung Life Communications
"Chris is a student of urban youth culture and is uniquely qualified to translate the gospel to urban youth. His ability to connect God's Word and solid biblical theology to a generation that is biblically illiterate, being raised fatherless and shaped by Hip Hop--is mind boggling! This book is a MUST READ for urban youth workers and the students they serve." Dr. Larry Acosta DMin. Founder/CEO Urban Youth Workers Institute
Chris Lassiter’s book You’re Grounded will make you laugh, but also begin to bring healing to your hurts. Grounded beautifully contextualizes the message of Jesus’ gospel into the city. Chris commentates on the spiritual heart of urban culture referencing voices from Kanye to Tozer, LeBron to Schaeffer. All community leaders, ballers, coaches and artists who love the urban community will be motivated with this fresh word of love and peace. Dave Sterrett- Author of I Am Second and Why Trust Jesus?
"Chris Lassiter has contributed to HipHopDX for several years, and he is a true expert on bridging the great artistry of the Christian Hip Hop world with a premiere secular audience." Jake Paine, editor-in-chief of HipHopDX.com
"Chris Lassiter has his finger on the pulse of culture and, at the same time, understands the heart-beat of God. This rare combination makes his contribution as an author and urban theologian both timeless and timely." Brady Goodwin Jr., author of City of Allegory aka Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist Phanatik.
Chris Lassiter has written several articles for Rapzilla.com, and I have found his writing to be genuine, relevant and informative. Chad Horton, editor-in-chief of Rapzilla.com
