Based on the Theology of Suffering course Dr. Finch teaches at Moody Bible Institute, this examination of the reality of evil and suffering in the world provides a framework to understand it, along with a pathway to cope with it. The author examines the reality of and causes of suffering, then points readers to the light of the Trinity, the Cross, God's point of view, and finally, to how a person experiences suffering. Suffering points to the mystery of life itself. It does something to a person, it reduces their tolerance of superficiality, writes Finch.

TOM FINCH (Th.D., Th.M., Dallas Theological Seminary) is a former professor of theology at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago and is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society. A former pastor, Tom lost his wife to brain cancer and began a journey into the suffering of man and sovereignty of God. He is author of Unmapped Darkness: Finding God¿s Path Through Suffering and a contributor to the Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament.
“Discover what remains true about God and life regardless of our experiences—good or bad, pleasant or painful. This book is about traveling into the heart of God amidst great pain.” Suffering. Every one of us is familiar with suffering in some way. Author Tom Finch offers a fresh look at the timeless problem of suffering. He takes the reader through the reality of the storms of life, finds God to be a very present power even in the most difficult of circumstances, explains how we can ride out suffering and even find value in the experience; and finally, how we can walk victoriously in the light with Christ. “Why would God let this happen?” As a pastor, that’s the question I get asked most from people who are suffering. While the answer is neither brief nor easy, it always leads back to a loving, faithful God. From his experience through deep waters, Tom Finch offers a qualified, biblical response to the question of suffering as one who has survived the deluge of circumstances and emerged with his faith firmly in place. I commend this compassionate, truth-telling resource to every sincere follower of Christ who is looking for biblical perspective in time of need. –James MacDonald, Senior Pastor, Harvest Bible Chapel Rolling Meadows, IL. Thoughtful questions for reflection follow each chapter.
