This volume, simultaneously published in Russian, presents essays by Western and Soviet scholars on the issue of "new thinking about peace and war." On both sides the tone is urgent, as it must be. The context is defined by the new themes of openness and transformation associated with General Secretary Gorbachev. Each participant has risen to the challenge of "thinking globally," bearing in mind that human survival is at stake. For once these are not two solitudes bellowing at each other in Cold War terms. Starting before page 1 to about page 65 and decreasing in amount as the numbers rise; at the bottom right side of the pages starting on page one an area of about 3/4 of an inch by 4 & 1/4 inches appears to have light water damage.
