Barbara Simons, a Montreal resident recently unemployed but in good financial shape, wins a ride-along in a police car for a night. That night lands her at the house of her former boss, Walter Whitestone, who is found stabbed to death. Investigating on her own, Simons discovers Whitestone's two mistresses, along with some money woes resulting from bad investment advice from his alcoholic brother-in-law. Caustic observations about Montreal's WASP community run through the story, as well as funny and sarcastic dialogue. Kate Reading reads in a flippant manner appropriate to the light and frothy story. But her French accent is not as good as it could be, and her performance doesn't quite convey the humor the author intended.
