Grade 5-8-- This revised edition is largely a reprint of the original (Walker, 1988). With the exception of a few paragraphs updating information on abortion rights, antidiscrimination legislation protecting disabled Americans, and the issue of life-support systems, there are no changes. Even the appendixes--containing historical documents and a brief directory of organizations--are the same as in the first volume. Also, the title is somewhat misleading since the text focuses mostly on civil rights (women's rights, integration, affirmative action, comparable worth, etc.) rather than civil liberties; bread-and-butter issues such as citizen rights vs. police powers and censorship are glossed over or ignored. Because of the paucity of new information herein, those owning the first edition need not consider this one. --Jack Forman, Mesa College Library, San Diego
