JOHN BECKER was born in Chicago, Illinois, and attended Harvard University. Besides having written several books for children, John was an actor and owned an art gallery in New York. He lived in London at the time of his death in the 1980's.
BARBARA COONEY illustrated over 100 books by the time she died in Maine in 2000. She was a two-time Caldecott award-winner, for Chanticleer and the Fox in 1958 and again for The Ox-Cart Man in 1980. She is also the illustrator of Walker's Kildee House and How the Hibernators Came to Bethlehem.
