Her book Slinky Scaly Slithery Snakes was named a CBC-NSTA Outstanding Science Trade Book for Children. Dorothy lives with her husband in Missoula, Montana.

Kendahl Jan Jubb has had her artwork exhibited in numerous art shows. She is the illustrator of Fabulous Fluttering Tropical Butterflies; Flashy Fantastic Rain Forest Frogs; Bold & Bright, Black-and-White Animals; and Slinky Scaly Slithery Snakes. Like Dorothy, she lives in Missoula, Montana.

Grade 1-4-This trip through the undersea world explains how corals grow, eat, reproduce, and thrive in a symbiotic relationship with the fish and other animals that live in a reef. The simple, informative text covers human relationships with reefs as well, from the positive-protection from storms, a source of food and medicine, tourism-to the negative-damage from diving, boating, polluting, and overfishing. The effect of global warming is mentioned. Attractive, lush watercolors fill each page but don't show the depth of detail or brilliance of color that can be seen in underwater photography. Helpful labels are superimposed on the art to identify some creatures, but not all, and in one instance a coral is confusingly labeled "antler" though the text refers to it as "elkhorn" and looks "like antlers." (Both names are accurate, but this is not clear.) There are many titles that are illustrated with excellent underwater photography; one is Caleb Owens's Coral Reefs (The Child's World, 1998).
