About the Author
STEPHEN MITCHELL was born in Brooklyn, studied at Amherst, the Sorbonne, and Yale, and spent seven years in Zen training. His many books include the award-winning The Wishing Bone and Other Poems.

Poet, translator, anthologist, zen practitioner, and all-round scholar - especially when it comes to Eastern and ancient philosophical and spiritual works - Mitchell's interpretations of Tao Te Ching, Bhagavad Gita and Gilgamesh are much respected, and his few children's books, like this one, are approachable for their young audience but no less literate. Hardcover book has plain mustard-colored cloth over boards with red lettering to spine. Though this is an Ex-Lib copy, condition is Near Fine: extremely clean, binding straight & strong, pages white. Some small neat stamps in front matter. Worst flaw is magic markered out library stamps on outside top & bottom page edges. The unclipped DJ is also Fine, protected under library mylar, which is completely clear & bright, but affixed to book at flaps, so we are not going to try & remove it. A lovely copy!
