Review

Children's BookwatchThe Story of Lydia features simple, humorous language laced with vivid detail combined with the strong lines and vibrant colors of the illustrations to bring to life a New Testament tale that children Ages 4 to 8 will long remember. A wonderful acquisition for church school and community libraries.
Children's Literature Laura Hummel"Lydia loved purple. She loved purple flowers, purple shadows at dusk..." so begins the Biblical story of a woman who also loves God. Lydia opened her home to Paul and Silas so they could preach about Jesus and love, but she was dismayed that so many visitors left her lovely purple possessions in shambles. When she went to tell the missionaries that they needed to meet elsewhere, she discovered that they had been imprisoned. God freed Paul and Silas by the miracle of an earthquake and Lydia learned that friends are more important than worldly goods. Young children will enjoy the simplicity of the text and illustrations. The lesson learned by Lydia could easily lead to a class discussion.
