Young Hansie and Will are sad about missing the holiday and anxious about their new sibling's arrival. Overcoming her own feelings of frustration, Emma works to create a special Christmas that the two young children won't forget.

About the Author

Elizabeth was born and grew up in Galesburg, Illinois. She graduated from Knox College with a B.A. in English. As a child, she spent countless summer days exploring the Galesburg Public Library where she not only made her way through the children’s section, but ascended to the restricted third floor where old magazines and newspapers were kept. It was there that she discovered her two favorite reading subjects: Abraham Lincoln and fellow Galesburg native Carl Sandburg, whose influence on her writing career she has felt deeply.

Elizabeth Van Steenwyk is the author of over 65 books for young people, and more than 250 articles and short stories for adult and children’s magazines. She has written books from biographies to fictional accounts of animals, and has won numerous awards throughout the course of her writing career. Some of these awards include the Helen Keating Ott Award for outstanding contribution to children’s literature, presented by the Church and Synagogue Library Association. She has also received the silver medal at the International Film and Television Festival for an adaptation of her book, The Best Horse.

Elizabeth lives in Paso Robles, California.

Ronald Himler has illustrated over 75 children’s books, including The Wall by Eve Bunting (Clarion) and Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr (Putnam). His work has been honored by the Society of Illustrators and the American Institute of Graphic Arts. He lives in Tucson, Arizona.
