Reviews

Spalsburys first novel is a simply told western tale. After the Civil War, Dave Kramer comes home to Quiet Valley to find the town deserted, ravaged by a cholera outbreak and under the thumb of Jedd Scott, a villainous gang leader. When Scott hightails it out of town, Kramer, filled with anger over the devastation of his home (not to mention the death of the woman he loves), pursues the man, determined to bring his reign of terror to an end, no matter what the cost. This is a lean, efficient novel with a strong, likable protagonist. Dave Kramers story arc follows a familiar pathreaders will expect him to trade his anger and hatred for something more productive, and they wont be disappointedbut theres nothing wrong with a familiar story as long as its well told and holds our interest. This one does both. --David Pitt
