In a quaint little town by Lake Superior, medical student Genevieve Fortier is spending a quiet summer drawing plants for an herbal magazine. When the inventor of a smash hit video game comes to town, the charming and handsome Charles Dumont, Genevieve is given to believe that he is a ladies' man - she has no intention of falling for him. She doesn't understand why his espresso brown eyes have such a magnetic pull, but she does know the haunting tunes he plays on his harmonica are a bittersweet reminder of her mother's New Orleans lullabies. What starts out as a harmless summer flirtation on his part turns serious at the same time as Charles stumbles onto their past connection. He realizes if he reveals the secret, he loses Genevieve forever. But it is precisely a lie that has brought such pain to their families in the past. Can love be enough to hold these two together despite their stormy ties?
