Catherine and Laurence Anholt have collaborated on nearly seventy children's titles that are published in twenty-three countries around the world. The lively antics of their own twins, Tom and Maddy, were the inspiration for these lovable new characters, Chimp and Zee.
reS-Gr 2-Chimp and Zee are told to stay close to their Mumkey in Jungletown, where they have gone to get bananas. However, the little chimps hide in a banana basket that looks like it is sitting on a rock but it is really resting on top of an elephant that wanders away. So begins their adventure. Toward the end of the story, Chimp and Zee float along the river and remarkably enough end up right in front of their own home. The pencil, ink, and watercolor illustrations pasted on primary-colored paper remain true to the Anholts' traditional style. The double-page spread showing Jungletown is very much like a picture from Richard Scarry's "Busytown," and children are sure to delight in poring over all of the activities. Although the text itself is a little weak and Chimp and Zee never seem to be unduly alarmed at being lost, youngsters should enjoy the story and the oversized, action-packed pictures.
