Grade 1-3 - In this satisfying sequel to Breakout at the Bug Lab (Dial, 2001), two brothers decide to adopt two giant hissing cockroaches from their entomologist mother's lab. When the roach population grows out of control, the boys try various schemes to find new homes for their extra pets. Finally, the school librarian comes to the rescue with a plan for getting rid of the additional insects and information on limiting the future population. The writing style is simple, yet entertaining, and the interesting story line is sure to please children. The book lends itself well to independent reading or to sharing aloud. Done in watercolor, gouache, and acrylic paints, the cartoon illustrations are colorful and clear. Bristling with amusing details, they show the enthusiasm and excitement of these agreeable siblings as they work to solve their dilemma. A great choice for newly confident readers and bug lovers alike. - Heather Ver Voort, Washington West Elementary, Olean, NY
