PreS—Sprout is the precocious big sister in a family that includes little sister Bea and an extremely patient and cheerful hipster mother. Sprout helps out around the house by brushing everyone's teeth (including using her mother's toothbrush on the dog), doing her own hair (by taking scissors to her bangs), and feeding the goldfish (a doughnut). Her desire to help is boundless, and she is certain that her efforts are successful and appreciated. The busy sketches on each page depict a messy but cheery household where Sprout's mom gives her freedom to explore and learn. Mom happily wears Bea strapped to her back and regards her eldest daughter with good humor while being occasionally alarmed or beleaguered due to Sprout's "helping."
