Synopsis
Designed to help counseling professionals improve their skills within the rational emotive behavioral counseling (REBC) approach, this volume provides a practical yet intensive look at REBC. An introduction to the four basic principles and practice of the approach begin the volume, which the authors have organized into three parts that examine crucial REBC areas. First, authors Windy Dryden and Joseph Yankura look at developing and maintaining a therapeutic alliance, covering such issues as developing a shared language with clients and ensuring that clients have reasonable self-helping goals. They go on to explore how REBC skills--such as identifying clients′ core beliefs--can be improved. The authors also discuss the process of helping clients to use REBC between counseling sessions, for example, by negotiating homework assignments. The volume concludes by examining how practitioners′ personal and professional skills can be enhanced through supervision and a rational self-care philosophy. About the Author
Windy Dryden is one of the leading practitioners and trainers in the UK in the Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) tradition of psychotherapy. He is best known for his work in Rational-Emotive Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (RECBT), a leading CBT approach. He has been working in the field of counselling and psychotherapy since 1975 and was one of the first people in Britain to be trained in CBT.
He has published over 200 books and has trained therapists all over the world, in as diverse places as the UK, the USA, South Africa, Turkey and Israel.
He is Emeritus Professor of Psychotherapeutic Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London.
