"Consistent presentation across chapters, which are successfully written for undergraduates and as a resource for graduate students. The volume is a reader-friendly presentation of ways to address a ′series of changes.′ . . . The volume is unique for its broad coverage of diverse methods, including some qualitative approaches." --Choice A comprehensive text, Research Methods in Psychology provides a nontechnical introduction to the key research methods employed in psychology and across the social sciences. Written in a lively and accessible style and addressing both quantitative and qualitative methods, this volume considers the relationship between psychological theory and research methodology and includes the practical and ethical issues therein. It explains how to structure data using the major types of research design and offers a practical guide to the major techniques of gathering data in psychology at intrapersonal, interpersonal, and societal levels of explanation. It also covers data analysis, clearly explains the logic of statistical testing and the relationships between methodology and statistics, and avoids very detailed technical formulae. Each chapter illustrates the topic in question with examples from current research and offers practical advice, exercises, and projects. Research Methods in Psychology is an ideal textbook for all psychological methods courses, as well as for similar courses in nursing and health studies, organization studies, and others which draw on the array of research techniques available in psychology.
