Roberto Ampuero (Valparaíso, 1953) es uno de los escritores chilenos más reconocidos y un cosmopolita. Ha vivido en Chile, Cuba, Alemania, Suecia y Estados Unidos. Ha recibido el Premio de la revista de libros El Mercurio (1993) por ¿Quién mató a Cristián Kustermann?, en 2006, mejor novela publicada en español durante el año por Pasiones griegas, otorgado por la Editorial Popular y la Asociación de Hispanistas de China, y en 2010, mejores diez novelas publicadas en alemán por El caso Neruda por la revista Buchkultur.
Su obra ha sido traducida al alemán, francés, inglés, italiano, chino, portugués, griego y croata. Es autor de Boleros en La Habana, El alemán de Atacama, Cita en el azul profundo, Halcones de la noche, Nuestros años verde olivo, Los amantes de Estocolmo y La otra mujer, entre otros. Es profesor de escritura creativa de las universidades de Iowa y Finis Terrae y columnista de El Mercurio.
