About the Author
Ernst Kantorowicz was an American historian born in Germany in 1895. He received his doctorate of philosophy from the University of Heidelberg in 1921. He was a member of the history faculty of New College, Oxford University before coming to the United States during the 30s. In this country he taught at Johns Hopkins University and at the University of California, where he was Professor of Medieval History.
