Grade 2-4-- Students in Brittany Mackle's elementary school are grouped according to their birthdays, and she is in the June through August class. Thus, while all the other third-grade classes have birthday parties complete with cake and ice cream, hers has none--until Brittany suggests that everyone in her class choose a famous person with whom to share an other-than-summer birthday. And thus is launched a year-long program of studying historical personages and having unique shared birthdays. There are, of course, some minor conflicts. The book is sincerely written and populated with agreeable characters, and readers will enjoy celebrating the historical birthdays with Miss McKellips's class. --Pamela K.
