Surveys the life and work of the artist and discusses his influence on art
"synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title.
This brief survey of a monumental career focuses on the ardor with which Picasso approached his life and work and the women in both: it might even be deemed as much historical romance as art history. The extraordinary creative capacity of the artist was apparently equaled only by his capacity to generate strong emotional ties with many women, women we have come to know well from the images that he has put before us. The excellent reproductions of works, famous and lesser known, the revealing photographs of the man at work and at ease, reflect the vitality and vision of this dominant figure. While interesting, this book is certainly not an essential purchase. It adds little to the existing literature of biography or criticism, including John Richardson with Marilyn McCully's A Life of Picasso and Josep Palau i Fabre's Picasso Cubism, 1907-1917 (both LJ 2/1/91).
