Using a wise economy of language, this unassuming story perfectly captures a common fantasy among children--to do something BIG, and worthy of a world record. An ideal complement to this slightly offbeat story are Guevara's stylized cartoon illustrations, executed in watercolor and detailed with charcoal pencil. The warm blues, greens, and pinks of winter clothing contrast dramatically with the cool whites and blue shadows of the snow. Emmett's friends and the townspeople represent a cross section of racial and cultural backgrounds with a realistic balance of male and female characters.
