From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-KThe jolly, expressive face of a grandfather clock marks the hours from one a.m. to one p.m. The lively, rhymed story begins with a sleeping family and proceeds as two mice go exploring, the moon sails over the house, a cat stretches as the clock strikes four, the milkmans truck arrives at five, a robin sings at six, the children wake up at seven, etc. The more interesting family activities of the afternoon and evening, however, are not recorded. Furthermore, the clock sounds range from soft to strident, in some instances loud enough to be heard outside on the street, whereas in actuality the chimes should never vary. The idea is clever, but the execution is uninspired. The acrylic cartoons have lots of blues and purples for the nighttime scenes and bright, clear colors for the daytime. The cheerful family figures are big headed and round faced. In each scene, the cited hour is written out in blue type and a clock face shows the correct position of the hands for that time. Additionally, the cover has a clock with moveable hands for time-telling practice.Patricia Pearl Dole, formerly at First Presbyterian School, Martinsville, VA
