Linda Bronson is the author and illustrator of The Circus Alphabet, in which she debuted her stunning three-dimensional illustrations. In gathering her materials for Sleigh Bells and Snowflakes, Linda says her favorite find was her sparkling glitter snow dust. Linda is also the illustrator of Teatime with Emma Buttersnap and Crookjaw. She lives with her husband Charlie in a little old farmhouse in Hadlyme, Connecticut.
Grade 1-3-Bronson draws together 19 holiday favorites and lesser-known poems and lyrics in this attractively packaged anthology. Mixed-media collages that incorporate fabric, paint, little wooden balls, fake fur, and other materials create handsomely tactile scenes and may encourage budding artists to try creations of their own. Selections include Ogden Nash's "Winter Morning," Frances A. Chesterton's "How Far Is It to Bethlehem?" and Robert Louis Stevenson's "Christmas Prayer," along with the lyrics to "Jingle Bells," "Hark! the Herald Angels Sing," "Silent Night," and other traditional material. Musical notation is not provided and some selections are incomplete. Nonetheless, the inspiring selections and well-matched art make this title a good choice for family sharing.-M. A.
