Although many truck books for kids focus on the largest of the species, this one looks at the smaller ones. Each spread features the name of the truck—mail truck, ice-cream truck, camper, ambulance, Zamboni, among others—in sturdy letters, along with a very short description of the truck's work: "A pickup truck can do so many things, from hauling material in its bed to pulling big loads behind." (Unfortunately, bed is not defined in this context.) Words are set against a geometric shape—a circle, a triangle, etc.—in a lighter shade than the pure, bright background color. The trucks are well chosen, but the pictures are not always as sharp as they could have been; occasionally, a cluttered background intrudes. There's still a lot to see, however, and the brief text makes this a possible choice for new readers.
