This volume reviews longitudinal models and analysis procedures for use in the behavioral and social sciences. Written by distinguished experts in the field, the book presents the most current approaches and theories, and the technical problems that may be encountered along the way. Readers will find new ideas about the use of longitudinal analysis in solving problems that arise due to the specific nature of the research design and the data available.

Longitudinal Models in the Behavioral and Related Sciences opens with the latest theoretical developments. In particular, the book addresses situations that arise due to the categorical nature of the data, issues related to state space modeling, and potential problems that may arise from network analysis and/or growth-curve data. The focus of part two is on the application of longitudinal modeling in a variety of disciplines. The book features applications such as heterogeneity on the patterns of a firm’s profit, on house prices, and on delinquent behavior; non-linearity in growth in assessing cognitive aging; measurement error issues in longitudinal research; and distance association for the analysis of change. Part two clearly demonstrates the caution that should be taken when applying longitudinal modeling as well as in the interpretation of the results. This new volume is ideal for advanced students and researchers in psychology, sociology, education, economics, management, medicine, and neuroscience.

About the Author:

Kees van Montfort is full professor Quantitative Research Techniques at the Free University Amsterdam and the Nyenrode Business University. He studied mathematics at the University of Twente. In 1989 he received his Ph.D. from the University of Leiden. Van Montfort has been published in various international (applied) statistical journals.Han Oud is associate professor in longitudinal  research and analysis methods at the Behavioural Science Institute of the Radboud University Nijmegen. In 1978 he received his Ph.D. from the same university on a dissertation titled "Systems Methodology in Social Science Research". His main research interests are the application of structural equation modeling, systems methodolgy, state space modeling, filtering techniques, and continuous time methods to panel data. He published about these topics in international statistical journals and edited books.  Albert Satorra is Professor of Statistics at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. He was a Visiting Scholar at the University of California at Los Angeles (1985-1987), and Visiting Researcher for several periods at various European universities. His expertise is in structural equations models (SEM), a topic in which he has contributed with numerous articles in leading journals (Psychometrika, Sociological Methodology, Journal of Multivariate Analysis, and others). In SEM he has contributed on power analysis, evaluation of the model fit, asymptotic robustness, multiple groups with incomplete data, and other  issues related to deviation of data from the adopted assumptions. He is an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute, and a regular member of the American Statistical Association, Psychometric Society and the Econometric Society. He is an Associate Editor of Psychometrika (since 1996), and of Structural Equation Modeling (since its inception in 1993).
