Children from various races and countries throughout the world represented Texas during the years before and after the Texas Revolution. These children played a very important and influential role during these explosive times as they fought to support and defend their respective causes. In William Louis Crow's new book, "The Young, Too, Are Heroic," intensive stories recount the volatile environment and fears which confronted these blossoming young heroes.
Set during the period of the Texas Revolution, this volume of illustrated family stories combines real-life heroes of our past like Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie with the stories of fictitious youngsters who perservere through the chaotic and harrowing days of the birth of Republic of Texas.
Presented as the work of a fictional newspaper reporter named Ander Nelan, Crow's book tells the inspirational tales of young heroes who are awarded certificates of recognition by Samuel Houston, president of the short-lived republic.
The text is accompanied by Crow's lively pencil and charcoal "knee-sketches" which depict various scenes from each story.
At a time in our country's history when we have so few positive role models, this book remembers and pays tribute to the determined young heroes of our past, instilling hope for the children of our future.
