Synopsis

The torturers (oops experimenters) turn their talents for intellectual arrogance, moral equivocation, malevolent misinformation, and bad taste against the animal rights movement, comparing its agenda and techniques to those of Nazi Germany. They describe the steps that institutions and organizations can take to become prepared for this fifth-column and to assess their state of preparedness. (RC) Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Reviews

A copy of this unique volume belongs in every facility that uses live animals for testing and research. The authors begin with a history of the animal rights movement and explain how concern for the welfare of animals has become confused with the more militant approach of some animal rights groups who advocate violence and who have been responsible for break-ins at research facilities, interference with experiments, and destruction of data. The book tells how sites are targeted for these attacks and outlines the typical procedure that is followed. By following the authors' suggestions and planning ahead, research institutions and personnel can be prepared to defuse attacks and propaganda campaigns waged by activist groups. The book includes a list of national and state organizations that support biomedical research and might be called upon for help. This is directed toward a very specific audience, for which it is highly recommended.
