A biography of Keam, who owned and operated a trading post in Arizona Territory from 1874 to 1902, trading with the Hopi and Navajo. He was the first to develop arts and crafts as part of his business, and to suggest that native artists modify their techniques to increase the salability of their work. He was also involved in early anthropological and archaeological work in the area and was an advocate for Indians, representing them in conflicts against the US in 1869 and 1902. Graves has written several books on southwest Indian crafts. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
