A tight, clean, generally fine example, couple small spots to the rear board. Issued without dust jacket. Massive, invaluable reference work on the soldiers of local militias in the Southern American colonies 1732-1774. As there was no standing army, the colonies were organized into militia districts for defense to protect against marauders aloing the frontier and from rebellion within. The colonia governor would be commander in chief of these militias, which would drill periodically in the use of weapons and military discipline. This work provides records fo the militias of Maryland, Gooch's American Regiment, Virginia, Robinson's Virginia, North Carolins, South Carolina, Georgia, the First and Second Troop of the Georgia Rangers, and miscellaneous rosters.
