Synopsis
The church in America, says author William Hulme, has generally contented itself with performance of its priestly duties, neglecting the prophetic. In direct contradiction to the gospels' emphasis on concern for the neighbor, we have adjusted complacently to social injustice and manipulation of the weak. He insists, however, that we can become creators as well as creatures of our social structures, and he advises strategic use of our people power – acting out the commands of Christ wherever we are – in our jobs, our homes, our relationships, and he offers practical suggestions for widening our spiritual vision to include both priestly compassion and prophetic courage.
