They document in text and photographs the spirit of an era when bodybuilding, formerly an all-male sport, emerged into the mainstream and created the major stars of the '70sArnold Schwarzenegger and a bevy of "legendary" Mr. Americas, Mr. Worlds and Mr. Universeswho here talk about their training, diet, competition and lifestyles. Some of what they say lacks credibility, and much is redundant. But there are also nuggets of candor and glimpses of dedicated athletic intelligence.
