A collection of over 70 brain-bending maths teasers, from grid and dot games to stretchy shapes and squiggly lines, mechanical and calculation puzzles to magic squares, and from vanishing tricks to amazing maps and mazes. The games and tricks featured include: fitting your entire head through a 3 x 5-inch postcard; calculating the duration of Big Ben's chimes; creating a deluxe Mobius strip; and escaping from rope handcuffs. There is a special chapter of mathematical puzzles and teasers created by Lewis Carroll, and 21 pages of answers are provided.

Gr 6 Up--This slim volume contains a number of mathematical recreations, grouped into categories such as "Grid & Dot Games," "Logic Puzzles," and "Vanishing Tricks." Most are accompanied by illustrations, but not all of them are as helpful as they might be. While answers are provided, some previous knowledge of and/or facility with mathematics would be helpful in order to avoid frustration with these activities. At the beginning of each section, the author gives a brief introduction to the type of activities that follow, including their relationship to different fields of mathematics, such as probability and topology. While the selections are interesting, there is nothing that distinguishes this volume from other math-related amusement books already on the market.
