Wilson, a columnist for the Boston Globe , developed this guide from a monthly feature column she wrote on Boston's historic landmarks. She aspires to offer something different from other guides on the market by concentrating primarily on sites while forgoing descriptions of accommodations and restaurants. The 50 landmarks are divided into six sections: Revolutionary-era sites, burial grounds and places of worship, arts and entertainment, literary landmarks, cultural history, and recreation. A list of addresses, telephone numbers, and visitor information follows each site. Although one section is devoted to Boston's cultural history, the rest of the guide is no more multicultural than titles like Frommer's Boston , which covers ethnic restaurants and neighborhoods. Nevertheless, this thorough, entertaining guide is recommended both to the general public and to serious students of history.
