Sternberg, a writer and public relations consultant living in Baton Rouge, presents a broad overview of the settlements and culture that evolved along the River Road since the early days of French and Spanish colonies. Half history, half guidebook, her work is a delightful excursion into the past. It alternates chapters overviewing the history of the area and peoples, agriculture and industry, architectural styles and wildlife with brief descriptions of notable areas of interest.
