Grade 9-12-- This book is the culmination of the author's decades of study and counseling experience. He is candid and direct and writes in a conversational manner. Gittelsohn first posts thought-provoking scenarios and asks readers what they would do in each case. He discusses love vs. infatuation, offering eight on-target definitions of signs of maturity and a self-study scale of levels through which one must grow to reach it. A chapter of facts on sex, including birth control and Jewish ethical views on abortion, is followed by one that discusses rape, masturbation, and AIDS. A final chapter includes intermarriage, a discussion of selecting a spouse with criteria for a compatible marriage, and some causes of divorce. Interwoven are the views of Jewish sages and current rabbinical decisions of the Reform Movement. The book is intended for Jewish teenagers of the Reform Movement in Judaism.
