Reviews

Grade 5-8-This book focuses on life cycles in the Jewish tradition, including birth and naming, joining the Jewish community, entering religious school, bar/bat mitzvahs, confirmation, marriage, and death and mourning. Each chapter opens with a story related to the topic, includes an excerpt from the Bible, and presents blessings for that particular event. The juxtaposition of these different sections results in a disjointed presentation of ideas. Although the information is correct for the Reform movement, the treatment of the subject matter is superficial and the text is dry and didactic. Many of the glossy, full-color photographs are merely decorative. This is not a significant addition to existing collections.
