Synopsis
Roland Barthes was one of France's leading literary critics and cultural commentators who died in 1980. This work, first published in 1977 has come to be seen as one of the author's key works. It is a kind of autobiography, both personal and theoretical, giving an account of his tastes, his childhood, his body then and later in life, his education, his passions and regrets. First US edition, hardcover, has a mild lean to the binding, light bumps to the spine ends, sunning to the head with a sliver of fading at the tail of the spine, faint tape shadows at the head and tail of the boards, and minor foxing with a penciled "6" to the head of the text block. Overall, a solid, tight, Very Good copy in a like, unclipped dust jacket, which has slight wear to the spine ends, edges and corners, sunning to the spine with lighter toning to the covers, and rubbing to the covers with smudging to the back.
