This book uses James W. Fowler's models of faith development (as found in his Stages of Faith: The Psychology of Human Development and the Quest for Meaning, LJ 9/1/81, and Becoming Adult, Becoming Christian: Adult Development and Christian Faith, LJ 12/84) as a framework for understanding the various ways people seek the security of faith while trying to avoid the risk and commitment involved. Progress in faith is seen as a willingness to let go of security, to surrender, to die to the old so that spiritual growth and renewal can occur. Strongly recommended, especially for seminary and public libraries.
