Synopsis
We normally think of religious conversion as a dramatic change in lifestyle with particular emphasis on churchgoing habits. William Barry describes it in a different way. Conversion, says Barry, is a turning away from illusion and toward reality. The "good news" is the happy knowledge that we can rid ourselves of fear and live in affectionate community with other people, thereby finding a deeper communion with God and with the universe. This book considers a number of ways and situations in which we are invited to choose life. Whether by reconciling old hurts, forgoing our resentments, or simply by being less hard on ourselves, we can strip away layers of fear and begin to live as real people in the real world.
