Eight Jewish scholars, some of them Orthodox, have written essays on Christianity from a Jewish perspective. Some of the essays are harsh in tone, revealing what might be characterized as animosity toward Judaism's younger sibling. Others, notably the essay by Michael Wyschogrod, are more conciliatory, providing an empathetic view of the Christian faith. What is remarkable is the degree to which almost all of these scholars seem to have been influenced by Martin Buber, a founder of Zionism, and (to a lesser degree) his colleague Franz Rosenzweig, in their attempts to build a theological framework for late 20th-century Jewish-Christian relations. The book fulfills its purpose as another step in the process of nurturing mutual understanding between the two faiths, and is highly recommended for academic and public libraries.
