Synopsis

Originally conceived and written in Africa, where the author has taught for two decades, this collection of seasonal meditations reflects on the Incarnation in the cross-cultural, multireligious world in which we all live on the threshold of the millennium. The book is not just a companion for the journey of Advent into Christmas, but a guide for all those who need to make a personal journey through the darkest days of the year into the light. Thoughtful and thought-provoking, these reflections cover the daily readings for Advent through Epiphany, as well as the Sunday readings for all three cycles. The reflections look at Scripture in the context of both its times and our own, embracing the concerns of our everyday life. Also included are meditations for the many saints' days that occur during Advent and Christmas. Evocative black-and-white drawings throughout add to the contemplative feel of this title. Individual readers can use this book to deepen their understanding of the Bible and to better prepare for Christmas. Preachers, homilists, parochial school teachers, and directors of religious ed will find the book an invaluable source of inspiration. And small Bible-study, Advent, or prayer groups will appreciate its fresh insights for everyday life.
