"Through the lives of well-known people like Catherine de Hueck, Dorothy Day, Edith Stein, Thomas Merton, Henri Nouwen, and many others, Rosemarie Carfagna in this powerfully enlightening book illustrates in detail the midlife crisis, how it reveals our common humanity and affords persons of faith the chance to surrender more deeply to the mysterious power of God at work in their lives. -- Kieran Kavanaugh, OCD
In this eminently readable book, Rosemarie Carfagna offers spiritual encouragement to the prayerful and reflective person struggling with midlife's challenges. Using examples from the lives of classic and contemporary figures, she shows how negotiating the mystery of midlife can be a profoundly contemplative experience. -- Richard J. Hauser, SJ Director of Masters Program in Christian Spirituality Creighton University Omaha, NE
With its remarkable blend of depth and clarity, Contemplation and Midlife offers solid guidance for turning a crisis into a spiritual opportunity no matter where we are on the aging journey. Carfagana provides us with enjoyable and absorbing reading by taking us into a rich array of lives--John of the Cross, Edith Stein, Thomas Merton, Dorothy Day, and many others--and brings us back to our own situations stronger and wiser. Her book will be an excellent resource not only for individuals, but for retreat leaders, pastors, and spiritual directors. -- Kathleen Fischer Author of Autumn Gospel
