Jeffrey M. Elliot was a professor of political science at North Carolina Central University. His books include "The State and Local Government Political Dictionary", "Urban Society", and many others. He conducted over 350 interviews, including interviews with Jimmy Carter, Fidel Castro, and Contra leader Adolfo Calero.
This first political science dictionary to focus primarily on state and local government covers 290 concepts. Arrangement by chapters (intergovernmental relations, constitutions, finance, cities) allows it to serve as a reference/study guide. Lengthy entries are supported by a clear index. Comparison with Jack Plano and Milton Greenberg's American Political Dictionary (Holt, 1985) reveals extensive overlap, but this book explains terms at more length and provides some unique information. For college and university libraries with a political science or public administration concentration. Mary Jane Brustman, SUNY at Albany Libs.
