About the Author
Ernest T Campbell is the author of Locked in a Room with Open Doors and the former pastor of The Riverside Church, New York City, as well as in churches in Stroudsburg and York, Pennsylvania, and Ann Arbor, Michigan. He has also taught at Garrett-Evangelical Seminary and Union Theological Seminary.

Campbell served as senior minister of Riverside Church from 1968 to 1976, succeeding Harry Emerson Fosdick and Robert J. McCracken, and was regarded as one of the most articulate voices of progressive Protestant preaching in his generation. The 1973 publication was issued by Association Press, the official publishing house of the National Council of the YMCA, which distributed ecumenical theology and social justice texts throughout the mid-twentieth century. The title derives from Frank Mason North's 1903 Social Gospel hymn.
