James C. Docherty is employed by the federal Department of Industrial Relations and by the federal Department of Immigration, Multicultural, and Indigenous Affairs. He was an Honorary Research Associate with the National Centre for Australian Studies at Monash University from 1990 to 1996. He has been a labor union member since 1978.
