This is an alphabet book for young (and old) dog lovers. Twenty-six enchanting lithographs span the world of dog breeds from Afghan to Zoological Dog, from Irish Terrier to Japanese Spaniel, from Dalmatian to Ulmer (Great Dane). Below the whimsical portrait of each variety by Clara Tice, her brief, sparkling text discusses the origins and foibles of the breed. ABC Dogs is a facsimile of a book originally published in 1940 and has proven timeless. The author shows us dogs who are snooty and self-obsessed as well as mere puppies with their moms. For some, it is mischief time, for others, it is nap time. For this new edition, a biographical sketch of the author will delight readers of all ages.
